Apprenticeships & Training

Ivy House Stables is an approved EQL training and assessment centre. 

Emma Greenland works in partnership with Equestrian Training Ltd to deliver the specialist horse care and breeding equine apprenticeships, as well as part-time equine breeding courses. 

Ivy House Stables provides a varied, hands-on experience, making it the perfect environment for apprentices to learn and develop their skills.

Equine Intermediate Apprenticeship

Duration: 12-18 Months

Dates: Applicants can enrol throughout the year.

Cost: Employers pay an apprenticeship wage. The National Apprenticeship Service funds the cost of the training and assessment.

Designed For
The Intermediate Equine Apprenticeship is for employees or individuals looking to gain employment in the equine industry while gaining skills and qualifications in the workplace. A good work ethic and a desire to learn how to work with horses is all that is needed to begin with!  

Qualification
On successful completion of this programme, Apprentices will gain an Equine Intermediate Apprenticeship which will include the following qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Horse Care/ BHS Stages 1 & 2/ EQL Level 2
  • Level 2 Award in Business for the Environment and Land-based Sector
  • Employer Rights and Responsibilities Workbook
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills Record of Achievement
  • HSE Emergency First Aid

If required, intermediate apprentices will also achieve the following functional skills qualifications:

  • Maths Level 1
  • English Level 1

Equine Advanced Apprenticeship

Duration: 18-24 Months

Dates: Applicants can enrol throughout the year.

Cost: Employers pay an apprenticeship wage. The National Apprenticeship Service funds the cost of the training and assessment.

Designed For
The Equine Advanced Apprenticeship programme is suitable for grooms, assistant yard managers, trek leaders, employees or individuals looking to become intermediate instructors and/ or a Level 3 Coach.  

Qualification
On successful completion of this programme, Apprentices will gain an Equine Advanced Apprenticeship which will include the following qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Horse Care/ BHS Stage 3/ EQL Stage 2
  • Level 3 Award in Business for the Equine Industry
  • Employer Rights and Responsibilities Workbook
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills Record of Achievement
  • Emergency First Aid at Work

If required, advanced apprentices will also achieve the following functional skills qualifications:

Equine Breeding Course

Full-time and part-time


Ivy House Stables is an excellent location to train for those with an interest in stud work, breeding and rehabilitation. Apprentices and students gain so much from the range of horses and activities that take place in this professional establishment. Emma is an approved assessor for Equestrian Training Ltd and does a great job in ensuring her staff gain a high standard of workplace training and experience to achieve the EQL work-based qualifications.
